Ho, Ed, all---

Is there a point to this?
Granted, you may not intend to ignite a debate on or a discussion of the
issues, but that is what will inevitably happen. Moreover, I heartly agree
with the consensus who've held forth thus far- 1) it's pointless (it's not
going to change any minds, either in Irving or here), and 2) it's contrary
to the real reason for this mailing list. Take it to rec.scouting.issues,
where there is plenty of interest left in beating this particular "dead
horse". Frankly, I'm tired of it (folks there seem to be taking a "last one
left arguing wins" stance).
Me, I'm here to help my Pack. Ya know.."to make the Pack go".
>It seems to me that we have an organization speaking on behalf of all of
>us, and nobody has been asked where we stand. I don't know about all of
>you, but that is slightly disturbing to me. For the record, I am
>adamantly opposed to allowing gays in Scouting, and it is my believe
>that a survey would bear this out.
>What is wrong with getting some feel for where Scouter's stand on these
And what makes you so sure that the volunteers WEREN'T asked and surveys
WEREN'T taken? Who in the sam hill do you think makes BSA policy, anyway?
Again, a survey of the compatively small Scouter population on this list
would be utterly pointless. Even if the survey went the other way, and you
sent the results to BSA, it wouldn't matter one wit to the folks in Irving.
In fact, all it would do is flood the mailboxes of listmembers with
non-anonymous responses, replace the sense of good will, fellowship &
Scouters helping Scouters on this list with a vague sense of unease and
animosity, draw the zealots over from rec.scouting.issues flamewars, and
maybe provide you with a sense of self-satisfaction if your belief "that a
survey would bear this out" came to pass.
Is it really worth it? My advice is to get back to the real reason we
faithfully read the list's 20-30 emails per day- helping each other to be
better Scouters & to provide a quality Scouting program to our kids.
If you're really intent on it (for whatever reason), Ed- set up a survey
web site with check boxes or radio buttons somewhere, or do the survey on
rec.scouting.issues. Just not in MY inbox, thank you. Submit the results to
BSA if you feel it'll help.

I feel better now. Really, I do...and once my heart rate slows back
down, I'll feel better still.
Scouting is a way of life.......ooooommmmmmm (repeat if needed)
