I recently came across something interesting in Backpacker Magazine and
also in Florida Sports Magazine. Both publications have done short
reviews of a new product that promises relief for many on these
lists.... socks with Teflon.
I quote from Florida Sports: "...the Teflon fiber is incorporated into
the sock's heel, toe, and pad areas, providing a totally new experience
in footwear comfort by reducing friction between foot and shoe. Since
friction is the primary cause of most blisters, reducing friction in
these key spots will decrease the incidence of blisters, calluses and
The Teflon in these revolutionary socks also makes for especially
durable footwear. DuPont's lab tests showed that after 50 hot washes,
almost no Teflon fibers were lost.
While the socks will soon be sold almost everywhere under a variety of
store and brand names, they'll carry the Teflon and Blister Guard logos
to identify the patented technologies. Retail prices will range between
$4.99 and $15 (US) per pair."
I thought this information might be useful for those anticipating a
Philmont trip this summer. Has anyone found or used these socks yet?
Now if we can only get DuPont to include "whining Scouts" in their list
of "other irritations" that will be decreased by this product, we're
home in a coach. :-)
As always, I hope this helps.
