Let me get this straight. The Scout's friend came and told you the Scout
was quitting but you haven't heard it direct from the boy yet? I'd want
something a little more first-hand.
I think I'd call the parents & talk to them. Since they've been supportive
that might be your best bet. It might be peer pressure but there might be
some sort of other problem (conflict with another Scout, etc.). Maybe you
can get him back, maybe not. If not tell them "sorry you're leaving...if
you ever change your mind, etc...."
