I need the wisdom of the list with a couple questions.
At our last pack committee meeting a matter was discussed and
evidently decided on concerning a second year WEBELOS. The scout in question
has completed all requirements for his Arrow of Light, except one. That one
being that he has not applied to a Boy Scout troop. He has a troop that he
wants to join but will not be able to go to troop meetings for about a year
due to a previous commitment on the same night of the week. (I don't know
what the commitment is.) He doesn't want to join another troop. He doesn't
want to just fill out the application to fulfill the AOL requirement as he
feels it would be dishonest, knowing he couldn't participate. The pack committee
has decided that since he has NOT completed ALL requirements, he should not
get the AOL. Evidently, the boy is very upset about all this and will not
be attending our BG banquet. In all likelyhood, he will not join a troop in
the future because of all this. I say give him the AOL and let him join a troop
when and if he wants. I'm all for rules and regulations, but justice is the
rule of law tempered by circumstance. What says the list?
The other question also concerns something that came up at our last
committee meeting. We awarded several AOL badges at our Feb. pack meeting and
those boys are already attending Boy Scout troop meetings at the troop of their
choice. The actual Crossover ceremony will be at our BG banquet next week.
Somebody asked if the boys should wear their Cub Scout uniforms for the
crossover instead of their Boy SCout uniforms. The CM stated that they shouldn't
be wearing Boy Scout uniforms at all since they have not attended a crossover
ceremony. His position was that until they go thru the crossover cermony, they
can't be Boy Scouts. As I stated, they have all earned their AOL and have been
accepted into a troop. Where does it say that they can't be Boy Scouts without
going thru a crossover ceremony? Have I missed something?
