I was going to let Rick's last response pass but then I read Chuck's
post and "Boy, he's coming from where I am". The issue of Uniforms as
function and Uniforms as program are two totally seperate and discrete
items but with the increasing High Adventure component of Scouting, they
come into conflict. Just as the Army would no more have soldiers wear
their Class As as they boarded helicopters for an assault, neither
should a scout wear his uniform(which is a dress uniform) on a back
country outing. That uniform is simply inappropriate for the activity.
And as to the uniform as a control element, Rick, you must have a
different type of Boy. I've got several who come perfectly attired but
are major discipline problems. Major issue: No real training for those
boys. The trained one are a different ballgame.
