I wished that National would have a public database available which lists
all Eagle Scouts, but they don't. Here's four postings from the past which
explains what you need to do:
>From Bob Amick:
Your Council Scout Office should have a complete record of all Eagles in
the history of your troop. If not, the National Office in Irving, TX will
have similar files as a "backup" which should go back to the beginning of
the BSA. There may, of course be some records which for various reasons
were not recorded, or have been lost, especially in the early
years of Scouting, but overall they are very complete and reliable.
>From Mark W. Arend:
I have a letter from John Dalrymple, Direcctor of Eagle Scout Services at
National. They do have records of Eagles going back to 1912; the records
are in alphabetical order by year. So, if you know the name of the Eagle &
the approximate year you can get confirmation of that Eagle.
But they cannot search through the records to compile a list of Eagles from
a Troop. To get such a list you can:
a--go down to Dallas & look yourself
b--pay to have them hire a temporary person to search the records

About 3 years ago I had an occasion to be in Dallas on business. I had a
little time to kill so I went to the National Headquarters. The folks were
very friendly and gave me a tour of the facility. We went to the OA area,
the Boys Life, and when we got to NESA a very funny thing happened. They
were converting to a new entry form for membership to NESA. The old method
literally come from an old bookkeepers manual. The manual had the following
entries---Name of the Eagle Scout , troop council , and the month and year
he received his Eagle.
Ironically, I had sent my Life membership monies in a little earlier and had
forgotten it. Suddenly, as I am looking over this book and the lady is
entering the names into the computer my name come up for the imprinting.
The point is exactly right that Bob Amick states is that the entries were
done by hand---similar to the Irish monks for the Book of Kells. Now it is
on a computer format.
Thanks for letting me share this story.
And finally from me:
There are three ways you can find Eagle Scouts from your Troop:
*The easiest is to go to your Council office and spend a day looking at the
file of your Troop that they maintain. It will have local copies of all
advancments in the Troop since it started, to include Eagle. If you're
lucky, you will also see in there copies of Courts of Honor scripts and
other items as well. Ask for photocopies of whatever you find.
*The second easiest is to contact the National Eagle Scout Assocation at the
BSA's National Office (SUM 200). Ask them to assist you in a search for
Eagle Scouts from your Troop. You will need the Troop number, Council
number AND "headquarters city" (the city in which your Council office is
located in...this is the PHYSICAL ADDRESS -- CITY AND STATE -- WHERE YOUR
COUNCIL IS LOCATED. ). The Headquarters City is what the BSA files all
kinds of things under.
*The third easist is to go to National and look it up yourself. It'll take
you the better part of the morning, and of course, you will need that same
information that you needed if you were writing to National. Also expect
that some days, you won't be able to get in the offices to review the books
(they write our names down in ledger books for easier filing).
Hope this helps!
