YES! this will be a problem in our troop. We just lost a whole group of
scouts from leadership in our troop last year because one of our leaders
wanted to split them off into an Explorer post....these were all Life
scouts planning to make Eagle. Now, of course, they all want to dual
register with the troop (not attend meetings or activities, however) and
get their Eagle through the troop. We currently have a Venture program in
the troop that services our older scouts. The new organization will
probably confuse the heck out of these scouts. My guess is that they will
feel the attraction of not being "bothered" by the younger scouts or
"bugged" by things such as regular meetings and troop responsibilities and
move over to the Venturing program.
I know that the national program committee tries very hard to think "large
picture" when they make decisions such as this. Sometimes I wonder if they
have mastered the "small picture" before attempting a larger canvas! :-)
