Forgive the cross post, but I wanted to make sure this got out to as
many interested Scouts and Scouters as possible. If this is a
duplicate, sorry, as I got a bounce message from scouts-l, and i wanted
to make sure it got to this group.
All 119 current Merit Badge Requirements (updated to January 1, 1998)
are now available on the US Scouting Service Project web site at the
Two Merit Badges were totally redone (ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE and the
previously discussed rewrite of PERSONAL MANAGEMENT). Three were added
to the book for the first time (CLIMBING, ARCHEOLOGY, & the new
ENTREPRENEURS HIP Merit Badge). In addition eighteen other Merit Badges
had some changes (Of particular note are major changes in the Eagle
required COMMUNICATIONS Merit Badge). All changes are highlighted in
the text, for easy review.
In addition, a table of Current Merit Badge Pamphlet Revision Dates is
also available on that system. Note that these dates may not necessarily
correspond to either the Copyright date of the pamphlet, or to the date
of the latest revision to the requirements for the Merit Badge. The date
for each pamphlet in the table, and at the end of each merit badge's
page is the date the CONTENT of the pamphlet was last updated, NOT when
the requirements changed. That table can be reached at:
An on-line and edited version of Bruce Cobern's excellent analysis of
all the changes in this year's book is also available at:
Thanks to Bruce Cobern for his work on analyzing the changes, and to
Mike Kauffmann for his work on the updated pamphlet list.
If you find any errors, please contact me, so I can fix them as soon as
possible. I know of a few, and will correct them ASAP.
One error you needn't write me about: I KNOW the Merit badges don't
display properly. I goofed in the HTML, and have already corrected the
error, but the corrected graphics may not show up for a week or so, due
to time constraints on the SYSOP, Chris Marsey.
