If I read these posts concerning BSA policy changes right, the
position of Den Chief is to be eliminated. Is that for real???
Speaking as a WEBELOS Den Leader, I must say that our Den Chief has
been one of the best additions we could possibly have made to our program.
He has been a wonderful role model for our Cubs. When we are having behavior
problems at a Den meeting, he can get control better than the adults. The
Cubs look up to him and there is at least one (my own son) who thinks of the
Den Chief as his big brother. We are likely to lose this young man anyway, as
he has just achieved Eagle, but that has nothing to do with the policy change.
Our Den Chief has been with us since Wolf and we are now WEBELOS I. The ideas
he has brought and the leadership qualities as well as the Den projects he
has headed have had a profound impact on our Cubs. I think it would be a real
mistake to eliminate this position. Most of the Dens in our pack of 120 boys
use Den Chiefs and those I have talked to about it all feel the same.
