I had overlooked these changes in leadership positions when I first read
the info Mike posted.
I am surprised that Den Chief would be removed as an Eagle position
(lumping it in with Bugler as good enough for lower ranks but not for
Eagle). Especially since Historian was just recently upgraded (which I
Personally, I would group Den Chief with SPL, ASPL, PL (Crew Chief), and
Troop Guide as the most important leadership/service positions in the
troop. These are the positions that require active leadership
demonstrations and have the most impact on troop operations. Scribe and
Quartermaster (if the troop actually uses the position) and perhaps
Chaplain's Aide would be the next group (maybe also JASM if the troop
has found something to do with them). These show a fair amount of
leadership, generally playing a significant role in troop operations.
Then would come Librarian, Historian, Bugler and Instructor, who's jobs
are generally much smaller and require only a small amount of
leadership. This last group is what I would cut from the Eagle list.
Interestingly enough, as far as I know the Den Chief position is the
only one that has a special award attached to it.
