Merger Mania at the Council Level

Merger Mania is upon us again as the number of councils continues to shrink
& consolidate. It is a rather difficult spectator sport since Scouting
Magazine does not keep us up to date on their inner organizational
For those of us who maintain web sites with links to all of the council it
can be a difficult challenge to keep up with who is merging with who and
what name & lodge they are becoming.
I would appreciate E-Mails from folks on the list with the latest scoop. I
will report back in a week with the changes for 1998 and the council names.
Already I have
Choccolocco, Tennessee Valley & Central Alabama (ALABAMA) are forming a new
council effective 1/1/98 called GREATER ALABAMA COUNCIL which will be made
up of three divisions
Forty Niner & Yosemite Council (CALIFORNIA) are becoming GREATER YOSEMITE
COUNCIL on 1/1/98.
Kanza Council Merged into Quivera Council in Kansas (last summer).
Fairfield County Council & Quinnipiac Council in Connecticut (new council
"Rumor / Discussion Stage" Mergers.....................
* Recombining Alaska into one or two councils from the current three
* Making three councils out of the eleven in New Jersey
* Merging one of the small South Georgia / North Florida Councils
(Waycross, Albany, Valdosta or Tallahassee) into a larger one.
