Of course you can count DARE for the 2nd class req. We have for years.
That said, you must know that it's a lousy program in most localities and has
actually been associated with an INCREASE in drug use in its target population
since its inception. There was a big article on the above recently... Time?
Newsweek? Our local (Boston) paper? I forget... (must be my old brain, got
fried too often as a youngster myself?) They quoted one of the officers
telling a jr high class that there once was a girl who smoked marijuana... and
she had a baby (gasp)... and it had...(dramatic pause) NO ARMS AND NO LEGS
Please. Do you think kids are that stoopid? Not in my kids' school they
Ask yrself... seriously, howcum if there are so many DARE officers running
around in those snazzy customized patrol cars, then there is more drug and
alcohol use now than ever before? Studies show there is, you know. How long
has DARE been around? 10 yrs? Are things better now than then? Hmmm?
