David Ball raised some good questions about how to define
fundraising participation? Since I'm proposing to make this a
requirement in my troop next year, I am interested in the experience
and wisdom of others on the list.
In my troop there are two fundraisers that add to the general treasury.
One is popcorn selling in October and November and a portion of
the profit is shared with the Scouts' camp account. The other involves
making Advent wreaths during troop meetings and on weekends in
November. Then we sell everything that's been made after church on
just one weekend - no door-to-door.
My proposed definition of "participation" is selling some popcorn
(no minimum) AND attending at least one Saturday wreath making
(usually 2 hours). The bill for not participating is to pay the Scout's
annual recharter fees.
