dues and parent pins

Being part of the training staff the parent pin issue has come up a number
of times. When I am in District uniform, at a training session, I do not
wear my pins. How can I teach it if I don't show it. However within the
confines of my own pack I wear the latest rank both of my boys have
achieved. I am very proud of my boys...as I am sure most parents are....and
I like to show it. I also don't have the option of going to a meeting
within our pack and not being a leader.
As for dues....in our pack each den collects $5 per month per boy. It is
supposed to be paid the first den meeting of the month. $1 of this is
turned over to the pack to help toward advancements.
The rank badges are free (100% Boys Life) and the committee put in the by
laws that the pack will pay for up to 9 beltloops per boy for the year. If
they earn over 9 then either the den or the parent has to pay for it. The
remaining $4 is used within the den to pay for any supplies they might need,
to help with outing expenses, anything that the den leader feels will
benefit the den. It is also used to pay for the individual den flags. When
our Webs dens decided to make their patrol flags, our other dens decided
they wanted to do the same thing. Now each den brings their flag to the pack
meetings to display proudly.
If a boy becomes inactive (misses 3 den/pack meetings in a row) then the den
leader does not turn in $1 for that boy. If the boy comes back to active
status then he starts paying his den dues again at that time.
