dues and income

One of my first acts as CM was to establish that each boy must pay 50 cents
a week as dues, to be used for the pack's funds.
This provides $2 a boy per month, which covers the purchase of most of our
pins and badges.
Other fund-raising is less efficient, as there is nobody who enjoys it. I
do lack a fund-raising chairman, though, and if I could get one it might
work better. The problem is, everybody is into fund-raising these days. The
schools, football, little league are always sending stuff home, asking
parents to buy, candy, t-shirts, Xmas wrapping paper, etc. The Scouts just
get lumped with this general mass, and people do get rather fed up of it,
as do we all. It should not be a large focus of pack work.
I am thinking of increasing dues to $1 or $1.50 a week to cover pack
purchases, and having us live within that budget as our main source of
income. It's how the real world works, after all. All comments are welcome.
