You are just a bit ahead of your time! This type of equipment is being
developed. I would guess we will see little bits of it being released
from now on. I would also predict that we are looking at a few years for
the units to be sold at an affordable price. As an example, I purchased
the CD-Notebook computer system in parts about 3-4 years ago when the
first ones were out. The CD itself was priced at $400, or $150 if you had
a previous mapping program. Then there was the $200 piece of software to
connect the GPS to the map program. And, of course, you had to get the
GPS for around $300 and the $50 cable. Now I can buy everything but the
computer for $169, including a simple GPS unit.
I, too, am anxious for the handheld units to be commonly available.
