Merit Badge Chaos

Okay, my head hurts..I think I need to take a break from merit badges :)
Thanks to all who replied about using the paper to get the currency exchange
rates. However, the boys already have this information (from the papers).
The second part of the requirement, which I was trying to help with, is to
find a "product" from another country and figured out how much it would cost
in U.S. dollars. That's why I requested catalogs, menus, etc.
I do want to thank everyone who responded...it was too much to try and thank
each one individually. (And I really wasn't trying to be lazy or give the
boys an easy way out ;)
But now there is more craziness going on...
I did contact our city police department to see if they would be willing to
work with the boys on fingerprinting. I told them about three boys wanted
to do it. Unless it is the "troop", it appears that they don't want to be
bothered. I was pretty shocked and disappointed. I did not get a chance
to talk to the senior patrol leader since we were helping about 20 boys
with CPR dummies last meeting. I did tell the Scoutmaster what I found out
and he will bring it up to the SPL to see if the boys want to do this. If
they don't, I'll take my son and his friends to a neighboring city where I
know they will help.
Additionally, *I'm* confused. CJ is looking at some of the other required
merit badges from the Eagle list. The Personal Management book that we have
(most current at the shop) looks almost completely different than what is
written in the 1996-1997 yellow book that contains all the merit badges.
I would believe that the merit badge book itself is the last authority, but
until CJ checks this out with his troop (or I get the answer here :) ...I
think the only part he should start on is the 90 days that he keeps track of
He is "scoping" out the required ones. I can't see him choosing Personal
Management yet, but he does surprise me at times.
I also found out from another parent at our *pack* committee meeting that
CJ is trying to get his Star by January. The things we learn from outside
sources! I did talk to him and explained the *earliest* he could do it would
be Jan 15 since he has to be in leadership and First Class for "x" amount of
time. After the troop completes First Aid, he will be one required merit
badge away. He is hoping that the troop will wrap up Citizenship in the
World in January.
*I* think CJ wants to make this rank before the next Court of Honor which
is in Jan. or Feb. I have no problem with that, some times he needs to be
jumped started. I just don't want him to be too upset if he misses getting
the rank by his next scheduled Court of Honor. I knew he had a good chance
of getting Star by his COH, but have not said anything to him other than
telling him he needed to make sure he got his blue cards signed and to the
appropriate people if he wanted to get them at his COH.
