Here are a few Camporee games for you.
1. Get a childs swing set and take off the swings and glider. Other
equipment you will need :25-50foot of 1/4
rope, a short log, a sturdy stake. The object is to throw the rope over
the top bar of the swing set, run up and tie a timber hitch around the log,
run back and pull the log up off the ground and tie it off on the stake
with a clove hitch.
2. Use a swing set but lash two poles up right and two poles horizontaly to
for a thing that looks like a tic tac toe board. Using a rope with a
weighted monkey paw knot on the end, scouts get points for getting the rope
thru one of the holes. If you make the holes different sizes you can give
more points for smaller holes.
3. Get a piece of plastic pipe about 3 ft long and 1-2" in diamiter, and
6-8 ropes about 10 ft long. Get a tennis ball or other ball. The object is
to tie one end of each rope on to the pipe, everyone pulls back on the
ropes. The pipe needs to be verticle, then you put the ball on top and the
patrol has to move a certain distance without dropping the ball. Give
points for fastest time or fewest drops in covering a distance.
4.The old atomic isotope game is good if it has not been used to much in
your area. Equipment: coffee can, 8 ropes each 10-12 ft long. the ropes
are tied to a circle of inner tube. This must fit snuggly around the can.
lay out a square on the ground about 8 ft on a side. Use flour to make the
lines. The can, with a few rocks in it is set in the center of the square,
the ropes and rubber band thing are set off to the side outside the square.
The patrol must pick up the can and transport it outside the square. They
can not step into the square. An empty can is fairly easy to do and it
gets harder as the weight of the can increases.
5.Lay out a bunch of twine on the ground like a big mixed up spider web.
The boys walk across it walking like a monkey on hands and feet and can not
touch any of the twine.
6. Horizontal rope ladder. This can be done between two trees or between
two trucks or any two non-movable things. Take a piece of 1/2 or 3/4 rope
30 ft long. Tie an overhand knot in the middle leaving a loop about a foot
in diameter. Come in about 3 ft and use a clove hitch to put in a sturdy
rung. We make ours about two feet long and 2 inches thick. Put in another
rung about a foot farther down the rope and so on untill you have about
nine feet of rope left. Tie both ropes together with an overhand or figure
8 knot. Tie one end of the rope to one truck bumper and the other end to
another truck bumper and pull it tight. The object is to get from one ent
to the other without flipping the ladder over. It can also be done with
one end at ground level and the other end up. We make the scouts wear a
bike helment and tell them not to let go if they flip over.
