Our troop hands out "parents' ribbons" along with the Scout pin when
the boy receives the Scout badge. This is a red ribbon about 6" long
with a pin to attach it to the parent's shirt. From then on, the future
parents' pins go on the ribbon. You could do likewise and then pin the
ribbon where the temporary patch is allowed to go (right pocket?). That
way you won't have to worry about the uniform police.
