Frankly, the only issue I see would be if the original image was
copyrighted, and your modification was not enough to make it a separate
and distinct work (even then, it might qualify as a parody). If the
original work WAS copyrighted, technically you'd need to get the
permission of the owner. If you're not sure, you might post your work,
together with an acknowledgement of the source. As long as you're not
selling something someone has a commercial interest in (Mickey Mouse
designs, for instance), there's little chance you'd get anything beyond
a "please remove these images" letter, even if the original copyright
holder found out and objected.
BTW, what's the "scout section of the internet?"
