Re: Campfire Pyrotechnics

Once in my youth we tried a flaming arrow to light a council fire.
Fortunately, it richocetted into the lake, not the crowd. We went back to
dancing the fire lit. An Indian dancer would circle the fire lay, stopping at
the pionts of the compass to shake a rattle at it. On the fourth point, the
fire would light. Inside the fire lay, nailed to a board, was a #10 can, cut
away in back & painted flat black inside & out, and holding a candle. At the
appropriate time, someone out of sight would pull string attached to a nail,
bringing the flame into contact with the tender (Ok, maybe some kerosine-
soaked tender - it was years ago.) Perhaps not 100% historicaly accurate, but
very impressive, and a lot safer than any projectile.
