new thread - district recognition dinner?

OK, Scouters, here's a new line to pursue. I have agreed to MC our annual
district recognition program in January. Over the years we have done the
dinner thing, both pot luck and catered. Attendance has been steady but
never strong. This year we are going to have a dessert reception instead of
the full dinner, cutting the cost back signficantly. We also have plans to
really promote this year to increase attendance, particularly from the Cub
Our usual program recognizes training awards, Wood Badge beads if any, the
District Award of Merit, district committee and activity chairs, etc. and
any other special awards that happen to be available, like the NESA award.
The questions: 1) what do other districts do to promote attendance at
their recognition events ? 2) other events or activities to make the
evening fun and interesting? 3) ways to spice things up? It's really an
open ended question: what do you do at your events?
