Yes, but what does the letter requesting a reference say? I would
presume it says something like "Could you please provide us with a
reference for . . . Please mail your reply to . . .
So, yes, the reference is to the fact that we may contact the references
by various means, but implied in that is the fact that THEY are supposed
to reply in some fashion. If we can't delay the board until this
happens, what is the purpose of the solicitation in the first place?
