To the list:
I was approached by members of my District Committee at a recent meeting
asd asked to plumb the wisdom of the list. ("Hey Ric, you're on that...that
internet thing, right? See what they say") There is an idea floating around to
try to institute an award for an outstanding youth that would be on par with
the District Award of Merit. Obviously there would be no knot, but other
recognitions could be designed. The question is, is there anyone doing
something similar? If so, how do you choose, especially if you have more than
one large town or population center? What qualifications do you look for
*specificly*? Scout spirit and community involvement are obvious givens but,
what next? How does yours work? What would you change, if you could? What
pitfalls are there?
Is this even a worthwhile idea?
Yes, I realize that OA and Eagle and Troop participation are recognitions and
often "atta boy" enough and that there are all kinds of problems both obvious
(administration) and not so (???). Some committee members feel there could be
something on a slightly grander scale.
I would appreciate private replies as I am on Digest mode and will pass the
info on to the Committee and sumarize after a reasonable time for the
list...Thanks a lot...Ric...
