To Jim Hayes (and other interested parties):
To your question that whether things have changed that much since you
were a Cub, I offer you a resounding NO!!!
While one purpose of the "Pack Meeting" is to recognize boys for their
accomplishments, the other purpose is to have FUN. Skits, songs, and
games should be worked into the pack meeting to keep the boys interested
enough to come back. This is the challenge a CM has to face every month
as he/she plans their meeting. From your post, it sounds as if your
pack needs to get past that obstacle.
While no one CM has a tried and true recipe for a successful Pack
Meeting, in general, we try to mix in a little fun in between
recognizing the boys, and we keep it moving at a fairly brisk pace to
keep their attention. Most other CMs would agree with me.
You may wish to tactfully bring this point up with your CM at the next
committee meeting, and get their spin on it.
Just offering up my two cents.
