Alicia, Don't write off Sportsman for your son just because you think he
won't get any "team sports". What about Badminton for just your den of
six? We tried it with more and it was chaos. I think the Book counts it
as an individual sport, but we always played it as kids with two teams or
2 or 3. What about Ultimate with just your den? What about (when it's
light enough in the evening since I think that's when you said you meet)
softball or baseball. We played with the WEbelos against the other den,
but with my Bears we played with the available parents (actually it was
kickball but same thing almost). the parents had as much fun as the kids.
Does your school do volleyball, basketball or soccer during PE? Have your
son or other Scouts read the Book for the sport in addition to PE play.
We did table tennis for a meeting as Bears - there's two on a team for
that. We asked permission to use the local teen center game room since
that's the only table I could find. Took the bus there after school for
an easy and much-loved FUN field trip. While I was working with 2-4
scouts on table tennis, the others played pool and fooseball.
I just work my Sport Beltloops in a a fun alternative to regular meetings.
Usually we have to meet someplace other than our house for these.
We also played Tennis at the neighbor's court (park nearby?). I got
rackets for a $1. apiece (could borrow them too) at a garage sale. Got a
volleyball for $1. at a garage sale. Oh and on tennis, play half courts
to get more boys in. A wall to use - practice skills in chartered org
Nobody says you HAVE to earn all 20. Just introduce one Activity Pin at a
time. I'm going to try to introduce all 20 pins. Each boy will have a
chance to earn something in every area. The parents then will have to
pick up some slack if boys miss and/or they want all 20 pins. I can't do
it all. I might TRY, but reality says not all boys will get all 20. But
I bet mine and a couple others will. If anything, Aquanaut will hold them
