Sad Ending of a Story that goes on forever.
As I read your story I could see a lot of things that happened
in that troop that shouldn't have been allowed to occur. I also
see lots of places the adults just let the kids be kids to and
against each other without providing that Adult Association =
ingredient in "our method" They also probably did or said nothing
while knowing what was going on in that family to that boy.
The events you describe are no different than many others in troops
I have been in and known, plus school, army, and work experiences.
To have helped that story along the best we could have done having
all our hindsight intact is Child Abuse Protection (The "RRR" in the
book front), hazing prevention, and adults who hold the SL intact in
a troop setting by knowing they are THE ADULTS. We can and should work
on these as Training items. These are powerful tools if we WANT to use
them and then DO use them. =
YiS, IMHO, and may we each attempt to live the SO,SL,SS,SM
