In my son's troop they use the 3-Way Backup System.
1. The troop scribe keeps track. The information is given to him
from the SPL who get it from the S.M.
2. The S.M. keep an on going record of who is working on what and
what has been completed for the year. (Very simple list)
3. An A.S.M. keeps the main troop records up with 'Troop Master"
software. He keeps up with all dates of advancements and all events
that the scouts do. He gets the information from the scribe and the
S.M. and from his own notes.
The Troop is also planning on letting the troop scribe use the Troop
Master software this year because the troop will be given an older
486 computer this coming year. (The ASM will still keep the master
