I just served as Scoutmaster for our district's first all-in-one SMF 1-2-3
weekend. The phrase "drinking from the end of a fire hose" comes to mind.
While it was a great weekend, and lots of goood training went on, there's
just too much material to cover for this format. When the staff got
together a week after the session to discuss the evaluations and make
recommendations for the next time, we decided to develop an eight hour
in-door session that covers advancement, YPT, troop organization, and other
issues that are best taught in a lecture setting. This will be a mandatory
session held twice, about a month before the outdoor session.
This will leave us an entire weekend to cover outdoor skills to a much
greater degree, and develop the patrol method, which the evaluations suggested.
By the way, I've been off line for over a week while changing ISPs. Those
of you who send me private E-Mail will need to change my address. I gotta
tell ya, not having access to Scouts-L was worse than stopping smoking!
