Silver tabs on the shoulders

I am one of those that wear several hats, but I only wear one
color. I am a Cub Master, Asst. Scout Master, Asst. District
Commish, on the Cub Round Table Staff, and the District Activity
Chairman. I wear the silver tabs and a District Committee patch
on my uniform at all functions. If the "Uniform Police" want to
hunt me down and banish me, then so be it.
My reason is that I get a lot of questions about the silver tabs
and why I am wearing them. This gives me a chance to explain
that there are other jobs in Scouting and to try and recruit a
little. I find that almost 90% of the folks do not know what a
Commissioner does and that Cub Round Table is on the first
Thursday of every month. I act as a walking billboard. It made
a big difference in my Troop as they did very little District and
Council events and now they do a good chunk of them. I don't
just wear the shoulder tabs, I use the shoulder tabs.
I also wear my unit numbers on my uniform to show that
nomatter what job I do in Scouting, that the boys and the unit
always comes first.
I know a lot of people out there and here in my Council are
real strict with the uniform. I think the Scouting uniform is
important and should meet certain standards. I also know that
we are NOT the military and that the ideals of Scouting are
whats important and not what you wear.
I think that was more than my $.02 worth.
