I just wanted to mention a couple more things we do on our PW Derby Races
to keep well meaning and very competitive parents and grandparents from
building the cars.
In our looks competition, we have the kids at school vote on their favorite
car to judge the looks winners. It never fails, the car that was obviously
built by the parent/granparent in a model shop DOES NOT get picked.
We also have an adult race. The only rules we enforce on this one is that
the weight and size of the cars meet regulations and of course, no motors.
This allows the engineer types to mickey mouse with the wheels all they
want and get it out of their system. More of the boys cars are built by
the boys this way as well.
I hope this gives ya'll some good ideas.
