Well I don't personally have *that* many years of experience! ;-)
I don't go out of my way to point out incorrect wearing of uniform items to a Scout or Scouter. Posts to this
forum, like the thread on the Scouter magazine covers is one thing. It is not directed to the wearer, but to
the virtual crackerbarrel. If a Scout or Scouter asks my opinion, or asks me how something is to be worn,
though, I don't hesitate to pull out my trusty copy of the Insignia Guide.
I think that your approach to this situation was correct.
