Here is another idea.
Instead of bulky and heavy (read wooden w/ metal hardware) patrol boxes, have
you tried Rubbermaid Roughneck polyethylene storage boxes? They are almost
indestructable, have snap-on tops, keep things clean and dry; they stack, and
come in various sizes (mine are 8" and 16" tall). A 8 incher with food or
cooking gear is not too heavy for even the smallest Scout.
You may think this is wierd. I also use a 8 1/2" frisbee as a dinner plate.
Food doesn't get cold so quickly as on a metal plate and if you're using
paper, a luncheon plate fits in it just right. It takes up no space in your
pack and you can play with it if you really get bored.
