As Great Trail Council begins preparations for our "High Place Rendezvous"
to be held on the grounds of Manatoc Scout Reservation next October, I have
taken on the task of compiling a 75th Anniversary History of the
reservation. This is a task that I gladly take on due to my own fond
memories of camping there (23 years). While I could use mostly local
resources for this project, it occurs to me that there are plenty of
people all over the country (and a couple outside the country that I know
of), who may be of help.
Here's the deal: I'm looking for anyone who may have camped at one of the
camps at Manatoc Scout Reservation between 1923 and the present.
Specifically, I'm looking for historically interesting stories, bits of
real history, pictures, or any other memorabilia from the following eras:
1923 - 1930 CAMP MANATOC - The original camp located in northern Summit
County near Peninsula, Ohio.
1930 - 1998 CAMP MANATOC - The "new" camp build between 1929 and 1932 just
south of the original camp's location.
1960 - 1979 CAMP BUTLER - The other "new" camp built on a "patrol cooking"
concept built east of the original camp. (The camp remains in use, during
this period the camp was used for summer camp concurrently with Camp
1979 - 1998 CAMP BUTLER - Camp Butler as a Cub and Training Camp.
If you need to know more, have questions, or just want to "chat" please
sent mail to email@example.com . Any responses to this request should be made
off the list to the same address. Thanks.
