Merit Badges at Troop Meeting

With everyone in doubt on how to be politically correct with the YP
and "Two Deep" leadership, this is what we have recommended to all of
our units. And yes at first many "Old Scouters" said it would never
work and did everything to make sure it failed. But now those same
scouters (even the ones with campaign hats and wool Jackcoats) are
wondering how they got by with the old way.
This is what our district recommends and 75% of the units do!
1. All Merit Badge Councilors are asked up front to come to the troop
meeting to work with the scouts.
2. The troop must provide a work space for the MBC.
3. All scouts must give at least a 1 week notice to the SM & MBC.
4. Troops that are meeting close by to each other will allow scouts
from other units to meet with the MBC if needed. (many times a MBC
may be meeting at one location and the boys can travel to see them)
5. Several units hold MB Clinics on Saturday mornings together. Pick
3 to 5 MB and have as many MBC for each as you can in one location.
The scouts can not just walk in, they still go through the same
steps, but this just makes it easy for everyone and they scouts can
work on several MB at one time and one location.
This has worked out great! It has also helped in recruiting new MBC
because they know that every Monday they will most likely be called
to come to a Troop meeting to meet with a scout or scouts.
Granted not all of the MB can be done like this but most can.
