Just a note on purchasing communications equipment!
In our area (Baltimore-Annapolis-DC) we have a number of military
facilities. One, Fort Meade, has a facility which sells used/outdated/etc.
equipment on Friday mornings. The terms are cash and carry, and items for
sale range from electronic (calculators, computers, etc.) to uniform pieces
to bicycles to stretchers to wheelchairs and gurneys. Of course, I swear
I've seen some of the stuff on M*A*S*H, which dates it a bit! However,
this might be a source for communications equipment. I can't say I've ever
seen any for sale, but I've gone mostly for other stuff (it's a great place
for the camo clothing that's been popular off and on!)
Just bear in mind that the stuff is used; that it comes with little or no
guarantee (check at point of purchase)and some stuff (i.e., computers with
"sensitive" information) may be gutted (hard drive removed) for "National
Security" reasons. BUT, it's a place to check out. Just call your local
military facility - I'm not sure if every facility has this available or
what, but it's worth a try.
