An old timer scouter, that I used to call the "wood badge chef"
once told me that "presentation is EVERYTHING" ! It don't matter
what you eat, as long as it looks good. He was alwyas a big fan
of table cloths, napkins, flowers on the table etc.
Some times I see scouts eating a barely warm hot dog off a stick!
Or peanut butter bye the spoonful etc.
Sure they will survive the weekend, but can we do better?
Meals can be presented and served in style! Don't focus only
on the content, but on the decor etc. Maybe this is a case where
the leaders could SET THE EXAMPLE? Show the scout patrols how
to prepare and server a really fancy meal at camp? And I mean
stuff the scouts will like to eat. . .not goose liver or fish eggs ;)
And of course with presentation comes timing. . . If you are going
to make coffee can ice cream for desert, you can't prepare it too
far in advance, etc. And I always forget, does the soup come before
of after the salad?
