As a scoutmaster, I make it a point to make sure the cross over from
1. Den Chiefs make a big difference. They get familiar with him. The Den
Chief usually becomes the Guide for their New Scout Patrol. (actually
that was 3 thoughts that all relate together).
2. WEBELOS are invited (with parent and Den leader) on 2 camping trips a
year with us. This is in the addition of the the required visiting a
3. I make myself visible to the WEBELOS with other scouts that they know,
i.e. Den Chief, so that they become familiar with me.
4. The Den Leader is asked to cross over with the boys and invited to
take a position in the troop. (Usually starting out as Patrol Advisor of
their boys patrol).
Out of the last 19 WEBELOS that have crossed over in the last two years,
I've only lost 3 of them. This is a lot of work on my part. I'm currently
trying to get an ASM to take over most of this part of my job. (Assitant
Scoutmaster of New Scouts)
