This discussion always brings up in my mind, where do we draw the line?
Advancement is one of the methods. However, we are very strong on the
fact that locally, we cannot change the requirements - no more, no less.
However, if the boy leaders want to accept only half of the requirements
of a badge to earn it, what do we do? I see many troops where most of
the boys wear only half of the uniform. Why is it that one of the 8
methods is rigid while another is not? I even received lots of comments
from other adults about not wearing the full uniform when I questioned it
at our last Roundtable. The discussion started when our District
Advancement Chairman mentioned the requirement of a full uniform for
those being reviewed for the Eagle Scout Award. Some comments I got
were "too expensive", "don't fit", "don't like the pants", etc.
Actually, these adults sounded like a lot of the boys.
I have never understood why we feel we can modify the uniform but not
