LAPPIN, GEORGE R.
A retired R&D adviser in Research and Development with Albemarle Corp.,
Baton Rouge, George R. Lappin died of cancer of the stomach at 10 a.m.
Saturday, Oct. 18, 1997, at his residence in Baton Rouge, after a short
illness. He was 58 and a native of Lawrence County, Ill. Visiting at St.
Luke's Episcopal Church, 8833 Goodwood Blvd., 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday.
Visiting at the church, noon until religious services at 2 p.m. Tuesday,
conducted by the Rev. Charles E. Jenkins and the Rev. Carl T. Cannon.
Burial in Greenoaks Memorial Park. ... Honorary pallbearers are members of
Boy Scouts of America Troop No. 478, members of Quinipissa Lodge No. 479 of
the Order of the Arrow, ... Honor guard supplied by members of AIChE
(American Institute of Chemical Engineers) and Quinipissa Lodge during
visiting hours. ... He enjoyed computers, tennis, working out, boating,
travel and spending time with family. He was a 30-year volunteer leader in
the Boy Scouts of America, including service on the executive board of the
Istrouma Area Council. Recognitions and activities include Silver Beaver,
Vigil Honor, Founders Award, Order of the Arrow lodge adviser, National
Jamboree and Wood Badge staff, Philmont, St. George's Award and
scoutmaster. He was active since youth in his church, St. Luke's Episcopal,
taught Sunday school and served as usher and on financial drives. ...
