Thank you to everyone that has e-mailed me...I need to be clear on the games
the boys play. They go around to 12 different events in a 2 hour period.
Like a round robin. They play these games in one area..It is late at night.
I will use the mummy wrap (thanks). This will be a timed event. The best
time wins out of all the patrols who play the game. There will be at least
275 to 300 scouts including 2nd year Weblos..There are 6 to a patrol. If the
patrol has less than 6 some boys will have to do the game twice to make it
even. The boys in their patrol picks who they want to do twice if needed.
We will also have a haunted house that the eplorer post from camp will do.
Here is a few games we used before:
Ring the Skeleton: use a skeleton head on a stick and throw rings and try to
make it around the head. Similiar to horse shoes. They have three rings each
boy in patrol tries to do it.
Coffin Ride: one boy sits in the wooden coffin and the other boys carry him
down to the line and back. This is timed.
Deadman's Hang: this is where the boys use gunny sacks, rope, and stuffing
to make a deadman, then hang it over the tree. This is timed too.
I hope this gives you a better idea of what the games are about. The skill
level can be different, but something that is somewhat easy for every one to
do at night..
It is late at night, dark, and we need to keep the boys safe.
Our resources are limited, and the games are not put together till after
lights are out around 10 PM at night...
Just like Santa elves..or goblins ghosts.
Also Sat morning, we need to do something different. We had a fun run for
the boys. It was about 1 1/2 mile run around camp. Last year only about 10
boys did this. The rest of the boys had a treasure hunt through our "Walk of
the Eagle" tree path. The treasure was candy that each patrol had a basket
with their name on it to find through the eagle tree path. Pretty Impressive
eagle walk. Some of the Eagle Scouts have had trees planted with their name
plaque since the 60's.
The candy is expensive and we done this too many times. It is boring to some
of the scouts who have been a spook-o-ree before.
