Well, I don't know about that...
Seriously, though, I deeply believe that boys need males in their lives
more than ever. One of the arguments for women in Scouting is the
number of female head of household single parents. This is a time when
a boy especially needs men from whom he can learn how to be a man
himself. That is something his mom can try to impart, but she can never
I personally appreciate the men who take on the roles of responsibility
in my sons' troop and I work for the troop as a Webelos recruiter
(something I seem to have a knack for.)
This said, females are in Scouting to stay and certainly contribute in
valuable ways. We (as women) need to be sensitive to the fact that many
boys are beginning to feel devalued themselves b/c of all the "women are
great, men are brutes" hype. Well, women ARE great, but so are men, and
boys NEED them to develop their sense of selves.
This doesn't actually "answer" any particular post, just MHO.
