John Sererino reminded me of two things about our special service awards:
>1. Professional Scouters can receive the AOM with National approval.
>(Operations Divison, I think.) Could also be Silver Beaver, but I
>don't recall the Ops Update from National addressing that award.
In order for a FIELD PROFESSIONAL to receive the Silver Beaver,
Distinguished Eagle Scout Award, or District/Division Award of Merit, in
addition to any procedure called for for volunteers, his or her nomination
must be approved in written statement by the Council Scout Executive and
forwarded to the National Director of Operations at the BSA National Office
for concurrance before it is sent to the National Court of Honor for approval.
Other professionals (the registrars, employees, secretaries, the camp
rangers, and other professional-technical employees) must wait FIVE YEARS
after the leave the profession or after they retire in order to be eligible
to become nominated.
>2. Silver Antelope is presented only to registered Scouters.
The Silver Antelope is presented only to registered Scouters *whom reside
within the Region which has nominated them*. In other words, Tom Brokaw
MUST be nominated and recieve the Silver Antelope Award from the WESTERN
REGION....even though he maintains living space and works in New York City
(part of the Northeast Region), he is "from" Montana (at least his
farm/ranch is there and he calls it 'home').
Thanks, John, for the reminders!!!
