I waited for the October 6-7 digest to arrive before posting this, but
maybe I'm the only one who stayed up late enough to see it.
On the _Late Show_ October 6, 1997, in his usuall snide manner, the host
David "Love Him Or Hate Him" Letterman gave a plug, of sorts, for Cub
Scouting and popcorn sales. He claimed to have been aproached while in his
garage at 9:00 p.m. by a Cub selling popcorn. After complaining about the
$5 price for a bucket of corn Dave claimed to have bought 2. This from a
guy who was reported to have recently quit smoking cigars (either 50 a day
at $20 each or 20 daily at $50 each--in any case burning up a grand a day).
At least he gave the Cubs and Scouting's popcorn sales some attention. I
haven't heard of any other national celebrities doing the same.
And, Dave, remember you made a comittment to the young man. When he comes
around with your two buckets of corn DON'T STIFF HIM FOR THE SAWBUCK!
