Ladies and Gentlemen,
I don't intend to flame anyone but would rather pose a simple question:
Patrick was kind enought to post several countries Scout Oath/Promise, in
each and everyone of these can be found the words "Duty to God". The
question then becomes: is not Scout Spirit the living of one's life by the
scout oath and law? If this is true, then the burden is placed on who
ever signed off on that requirement for each rank. Net net, a scout
should not proceed to Eagle if he is not completing the requirements.
Personally I have yet to meet a young person who is Godless. From early
on a child seems to have an inate respect and basic understanding of a
superior being, force, God. The only exception I have seen to this is
when the parents are actively overlaying their lack of belief on their
children. I must say I am not an expert in this field only an observer of
In this day and age it seems that people are willing to make compromises
instead of creating conflict. If there is any doubt on where we should
stand on this issue; I would suggest we reflect on B.P.'s own statement,
"There is no religious side to the Movement, the whole of it is based on
religion and service to God".
