Well, this whole jewelry thread has left me very disappointed.
Granted, we've seen some pretty interesting arguements for and against
jewelry, tattoos, purple hair and more, and for and against making rules
concerning the same. But I think we've also seen much more of the uglier
side of many Scouters than we'd like to.
Maybe I'm naive, maybe I'm too trusting, but I never have and never will
associate so many negatives with something as mundane as a tattoo, an
earring, purple hair, wide bell bottoms, a pierced tongue or anything else
we've seen mentioned. It is not one's appearance or taste that moves me to
judge a person so much as how they carry and present themself. To tell you
the truth, I much prefer the company of most of those pierced, tattooed,
longhaired, shaved head, dyed haired 'raucus rock and rolling misguided
misfits' to some of the Scouters I've seen posting on this thread showing
their ignorance and intollerance.
The very fact that some of us hold to the misperceptions we've seen in this
thread is the very problem we should be fighting to overcome. We are working
towards a better future. Part of that is teaching to look beyond the
obvious, to see past the facade, to get to the heart. So I guess it's true
then; those who can't do...teach.
