I mailed out nine more set of plans on Wednesday last, and I am about to
mail out two more today, if I can get to the post office before it closes.
Thus far, I have distributed over 120 sets of plans.
Several people asked me for plans, but have not sent me their respective
postal mailing addresses. Unless and until I receive them, I cannot mail
For those of you to whom this thread is new, I have plans for constructing
a Newtoniam reflector telescope on a Dobsonian alt-azimuth mount, with an
8" (20cm) or 10" (25cm) primary lens. These telescopes are made from
readily available materials, and the plans include a handout on how to
grind and polish your own lens. These plans are copyrighted by John
Dobson, and may be freely copied and used for non-commercial purposes.
John Dobson is the founder of "The Sidewalk Astronomers", whose purpose
as an organization is to get telescopes into people's hands and to get
to look at the heavens and to think about first causes. To further this
end, they also take their homemade telescopes onto the sidewalks and let
people look at the glories of the heavens.
If anybody else is interested in acquiring a set of plans for building a
telescope, please e-mail me your postal mailing address.
