Yeah, this is a promotion by Trails End (BSA's popcorn vendor,
if you didn't recognize the name) to encourage popcorn sales during
October, the popcorn sales month. They have constructed "The world's
largest popcorn ball," and are hauling this across the country via truck
(no scout rolling, per se). This ball is huge, supposed to be well over
10 to 12 feet in diameter, and at each stop, the local council, I
understand, is allowed to add some to it.
It is scheduled to be here in Pittsburgh (at the Monroeville
Mall for locals on this list) October 10th, 3 to 7 pm. It started in Los
Angeles and is weaving its way across the country.
At each stop, think "scout show", a chance to not only encourage
sales of popcorn, but also present scouting in the community, if the
local folks were to organize some literature tables, demos, have some
applications on hand, etc.
