Subject: EAGLE BOARD OF REVIEW QUESTION/HELP ME!!
I would have replied sooner except a triple bypass 10 days ago got in the way.
>My 17 year old son (18 on Oct 17, 1997) has completed his Eagle project,
>all his merit badges and will finish his Troop board of review this week.
>Our problem is: he is leaving for Parris Island (Boot Camp) on Sunday,
>Sept. 21 and cannot have a council Board of Review before he leaves.
>My son's Troop committee says that they
>will absolutely NOT put in for an extension because "we've pushed him to
>finish everything since last year and it's just too bad".
Actually you have mentioned two situations which need resolution - I will
not touch your last three lines since they involve personalities vice
regulations. Settumanque has given you the words from the book - heed them!
I don't know what other Councils/Districts can do with their Boards. I know
that in 25 years on my District Board (most as chair) I have arranged Boards
in 8 hours and on Holidays. OTOH every candidate gives me as much
consideration as he possibly can. Fortunately I am retired and usually able
to accomodate the schedule of others and, except for the Council Advisory
Committee, Chairing that Board is the only position I will accept. If their
position is proper, drop it; if their position is improper, secure a written
reason for rejection and pursue as far as necessary.
