This thread has certainly gone on and both sides of the issue have been
eloquently expressed, and then some. Time for some humor.
A couple of years ago I was at the mall and needed to use the restroom.
While using the facilities a group of 5 clean cut well behaved teenagers
came in. These guys were LARGE. I'm 6', 200-plenty and all of these
fellows were at least my equal. I surmised that they probably were
football players from the eastern part of the state (read: more conservative
area than our "metropolitian" city) They were clustered around the sink
area trying to help one of their own with what seemed to be a medical problem.
I waited a few moments to use the sink and it soon became obvious they
were trying to help the young man insert his new ear ring.
I told my wife it really must be the 90's.
My vote on Scout and Scouter's personal appearance. Our toop has several
pierced Scouts, and one pierced leader. Several of our Scouts have
pony tails and one of our leaders has the longest ponytail I've seen
in our council, either gender (he's a guy). Several of our past Eagles
were tatooed before receiveing their awards. All of the above mentioned
individuals are active and are excellent living examples of the Scout Oath
and Law. The (few) dicipline and attitude problems we have are from people
who look more traditional. Go figure.
I would prefer working with a Scout with a good attitude and some minor self-
mutilation over an intact Scout with a bad attitude any day.
That's just my opinion, I could be wrong.
Yours in the spirit of Scouting,
